Samsung Galaxy a Series announced for us: Release date, price and features

Samsung has finally announced plans for its new Galaxy A lineup and which models will be available in the US. And the first thing you might notice is what's missing.

Namely, Samsung's Galaxy A72, which is too similar to the popular Galaxy S20 FE that was introduced last year and will likely never make it to the US. But even without that particular model, there are still Vikings to choose from among the Galaxy A phones now that Samsung has disclosed its launch plans.

In fact, there are so many models, five in all, that they almost overlap. Samsung wanted to find a handset for every conceivable price, and it certainly did.

From $109 to $499, Samsung likely has a handset for you, no matter your budget. Three of its models support 5G, and several have high refresh rate displays. Here's what you need to know about the latest Samsung Galaxy A devices.

The centerpiece of the new A series for the U.S. is the Galaxy A52 5G, which Samsung first announced in March; with its 120Hz 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and Snapdragon 750G chipset, the phone is a top-of-the-line product (except for the A72, which is not shown here) The A52 5G has four cameras, 128GB of storage, and 6GB of RAM.

These four cameras consist of a 64MP main sensor with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro. The front camera is 32MP and can capture detailed selfies. It is powerful enough for gaming, watching videos, and chatting with friends and family.

The A52 5G costs $499 and features IP67 compliance, stereo speakers, and a 4,500 mAh battery; the A52 5G will be available this Friday, April 9, on both AT&T and US Cellular.

A step down from the A52 is the A42 5G, which features a 60 Hz 6.6" HD+ AMOLED display, the same Snapdragon 750G and 128 GB of storage as the A52, but with 4 GB of RAM instead of 6 GB.

The Galaxy A42 5G has a triple camera and an in-display fingerprint sensor. These cameras are a 48MP main shooter, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is 13 MP.

The Galaxy A42 5G is priced at $399 and will be available Thursday (April 8) from Verizon and Samsung.

Further down the line, there is the Galaxy A32 5G with a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD set at a 90Hz refresh rate; it has a large 5,000mAh battery, 64GB of storage, 4GB of RAM; a MediaTek 720 SoC and has four cameras.

48MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro, 2MP depth, and 13MP selfie cam on the front. The Galaxy A32 5G will be available April 9 for $279. Cricket Wireless is selling this phone as well as US Cellular.

The Galaxy A12 is a sub-$200 smartphone with a 6.5" HD+ LCD, 5000mAh battery, MediaTek P35 processor, 32GB storage, and 3GB RAM. It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 60Hz refresh rate, and quad setup with 48MP main, 5MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth. it will be available on AT&T and Cricket on April 9 for $179 and will be available to customers on US Cellular.

Last is the Galaxy A02s, which like the A12 has a 5,000mAh battery and a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD (60Hz), but with a Snapdragon 450 processor, 32GB storage, and 2GB RAM. It has a triple lens with 13 MP main, 2 MP macro, and 2 MP depth. The A02s is priced at only $109 and will be available later this year, and US Cellular has promised a release date.
