Chrome OS is a robust OS and provides a fairly secure ecosystem that many companies use to protect their businesses from cyber threats. But now, a newly discovered bug could expose your location history to anyone with physical access to your Chromebook.

The Chromebook bug, first reported by The Verge, was discovered by the Liberating Information Technology Committee.

The logs appear to be stored in unprotected memory and are accessible to those logged in in guest mode. As with all such things, it takes more than a cursory understanding of the Chromebook to extract meaning from the logs.

However, a determined crook with physical access to the machine could decrypt the logs and expose up to seven days of location history through the Wi-Fi network accessed.

To strengthen the Chromebook's defenses, guest mode must be switched off completely.

This means completely revoking access to guest accounts, as this is a surefire way to stop threats from becoming a Chromebook reality. To do so, follow these steps.

Google is aware of the problem, but has not indicated when it will be fixed.

Chromebooks, of course, are becoming increasingly popular with users. Arriving with a better set of specs, Google's laptops are increasingly aiming to compete with gaming laptops and offer features comparable to more powerful machines.

Hopefully Google will apply this patch before the vulnerabilities in Chromebooks become more systemic and thereby affect its new and growing customer base.
