The latest season of Fortnite has officially begun. Season 6, the second chapter of Fortnite, has largely managed to avoid the massive amount of leaked information that has spoiled previous events of this hugely popular online game, and will enter this season with plenty of surprises still to come.
Launched on March 16, Fortnite Season 6, dubbed Primal, has already brought some major changes to the battle royale game.
Season 5 was dominated by crossovers. Iconic video game characters like Kratos on PlayStation and Master Chief on Xbox, as well as popular culture icons like the Mandalorian and the Predator, entered the fray.
Season 6, however, seems to take a slightly different approach, focusing instead on Fortnite's own lore and unique characters. Of course, some familiar faces will make cameo appearances. [Here's everything we know about "Fortnite Season 6" so far, as well as some hints about what's to come.
When you launch Fortnite Season 6 for the first time, you will complete the conclusion of Agent Jones' mission in Zero Crisis.
Of course, players will have to wait a while, as Jones' quest to prevent the island's core from collapsing began in Season 5. From the intro cinematic, it looks like it will be epic in its own right.
Curiously, this finale will be a solo experience, going against the social aspect that has dominated Fortnite events in the past. Perhaps this is a sign of Epic's eagerness to include more narrative-focused content this season.
Released this season under the title "Primal," Fortnite appears to be about to be invaded by four-legged guests.
Animals from ferocious wolves to raging wild boars to slightly friendlier creatures like chickens and frogs now roam the island.
You can hunt these animals and use the resources you gather to craft unique weapons such as bows and arrows. You can also tame animals if you wish to fight alongside your animal companions.
The crafting mechanic has recently exploded in popularity, in part because survival games like Valheim were built around the concept.
You can also tame animals found on the island if you wish to fight alongside your animal companions.
As is customary at this point, season 6 brings dramatic changes to the Fortnite map.
A huge tower now appears in the center of the island. Called The Spire, this monolithic structure covers the entire island and cannot be missed.
Surrounding the tower are new villages like Colossal Crops and Boney Burbs.
The new-look map was leaked prior to the start of the season, so we already had a chance to familiarize ourselves with the changes.
Given that the new season of Fortnite is about hunting and wilderness survival, it is rather fitting that the first crossover of the season is none other than Lara Croft.
The "Tomb Raider" series is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, and there was speculation that Lara would appear in the "Fortnite" universe to commemorate the occasion.
Several different Lara skins are available, including one modeled after her classic polygonal appearance and another inspired by the recent reboot trilogy.
Lara is unlocked with the Fortnite Season 6 Battle Pass. Raven from the superhero comic Teen Titans is also available as part of the pass.
After some teasing on Twitter, it was confirmed that Neymar will be joining Fortnite this season.
It seems odd for a Brazilian soccer star to appear in another game (except FIFA), but this is Fortnite. Travis Scott's virtual concert proved that anything is possible.
It remains to be seen how Neymar will fare in "Fortnite," but it is likely to be an unlockable skin. Maybe he has a unique soccer weapon, or maybe he rolls around on the floor after being knocked down by another player.
Fortnite Season 6 is more closely guarded than usual, so we don't have as strong an idea as we have in the past as to what will happen throughout the season.
Leaker HYPEX has revealed several things that were planned for season 5 but did not happen, including a crossover with animated sitcom Family Guy.
All of this content could have been postponed for Season 6. Time will tell.
