Andor Season 2 Confirmed: Everything We Know

Andor Season 2 Confirmed: Everything We Know

There is good news and bad news about Andor Season 2. The good news. It is that the Disney Plus series will continue. That part is not much of a surprise, since it has been expected for some time that this series would continue for many seasons.

The downside, however, is how we'll get to Andor Season 2 and what happens after that. Not only will the wait be long, but the second season will be all that showrunner Tony Gilroy "wrote."

The fate of Andor, one of the best shows (or rather projects) in Star Wars history, has already been decided. Gilroy (open in new tab) told the press that Season 2 of Andor will be the final episode; Season 2 of Andor, like the first, will have 12 episodes in total.

So while we wait to see the Andor finale online, here is everything we know about Andor Season 2.

A release date for Andor Season 2 has not yet been announced, but you can get some clues by watching last season.

Originally (opens in new tab), Andor Season 1 was scheduled to shoot between November 2020 and July 2021. Then (open in new tab) an outbreak of Covid-19 was reported and a "full division" was quarantined. Andor was then (open in new tab) filmed in September 2021. Andor Season 1 premiered a year later in September 2022.

This is helpful because showrunner Tony Gilroy told Collider (opens in new tab) that filming for Andor Season 2 will begin on November 21, 2022. Assuming that Andor Season 2 maintains the above schedule and avoids the Covid-19 outbreak (which is not an absolute certainty), it is not unreasonable to assume that Andor Season 2 will be released in July 2024. This is based on a schedule of eight months of filming and one year of post-production work.

Don't believe it. Gilroy (open in new tab) himself has stated that one should not expect Andor until 2024, and that the series will finish filming in August 2023 and spend a year in post-production.

Andor Season 2, starring Diego Luna, would not be possible without Cassian Geron Andor, who is becoming an integral part of the Rebel Alliance. We know from "Rogue One" that he will be a soldier, pilot, and intelligence officer.

Eventually, we will see and hear Alan Tudyk's droid K-2SO, but Gilroy has already postponed its return (open in new tab) to the distant future.

As for the rest of the Andor Season 2 cast. There are five major characters who would be shocked if they were killed off in the Season 1 finale. The first of these is Luten Rael, played by Stellan SkarsgÄrd, whose tactics are constantly questioned by those around him, including Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), who was revealed to be half man, half machine in "Rogue One". Rael feels like the founder of the Rebel Alliance, always speaking for a larger goal than Andor.

Other big names not expected to be killed off anytime soon are two of the biggest thorns in the side of the young rebels: Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) and Cyril Khan (Kyle Soler). Meero is a rising star in the Galactic Empire's Imperial Security Bureau (ISB), which is tracking down "Axis" linked to anti-imperial activities.

That person may be Ant Kriegill, the bearded bald man shown in the hologram in episode 11, but the role does not appear to have been cast (the credits do not mention the person's name, leading one to believe that the image is a composite). Khan overstepped his bounds when he tried to hunt Cassian and has been trying to dig himself out of that hole ever since.

Finally, another character we hope to see more of is Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly), whose story now revolves around funding the rebels. Unfortunately, in order to do so, she may need to make a deal regarding her daughter Lida (Bronte Carmichael). Banker Davo Skardin (Richard Dillane) is bartering with Mon Mothma and offers to help her in exchange for bringing his son and Lida together.

Mothma's husband Perrin Felsa (Alastair McKenzie) is high on the list of actors who could return, but it is unclear how integral he is to the show's overall storyline.

Moving the virtual camera to Felix, we have some of Cassian's allies for a possible season 2. Sadly, we will no longer see Cassian's mother Marva Ando (Fiona Shaw), who died off camera.

Brasso (Joplin Sibtain), one of Cassian's last allies, seems like a man whose future, while not in trouble, is not guaranteed. The same can be said for Bix Kalin (Adria Arjona), who is being held and tortured by the ISB. Salman Park (Abin Galeya), who controlled the communications tower that Bix used to communicate with Luten, is being held by the ISB and told that he is to be hanged as an example. Salman's son Wilmon (Muhannad Bayer) is now free.

Finally, there is B2EMO, an adorable rusty-red droid who stammers and emotes. If B2EMO does not appear in Andor Season 2, consider us heartbroken.

The story is simple. Cassian Andor is a man on the run and cannot be a member of the Rebel Alliance. Mon Mosma, a pillar of the same group, struggles to actually control his own destiny.

Lucen Rael and Saw Guerrera are at odds, trying to figure out what they are doing and how to break the status quo - and Dedra Meero and Cyril Khan are trying to stifle this rebellion. We also know that Cassian will help destroy the Death Star. As for the rest of the names, we only saw Mothma and Guerrera appear in Rogue One.

Andor Season 2 will obviously be all about how these people evolve and what forces push them in unexpected directions. Of course, the Andor Season 1 finale may play a part, but we'll talk about that after it airs.

But the fact we do know is that the Andor Season 2 finale will tie directly into Rogue One. Gilroy told Deadline (opens in new tab) that Andor's 24th and final episode "takes the audience directly to the first scene of 'Rogue One.'"
