The Samsung Galaxy S23 specs are leaking to all 3 models before unpacking - here's what you get

We are just a few days away from the official unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S23, but don't expect any major surprises. As is usual with high-profile smartphones in the age of social media, nearly every detail of the upcoming trio has been shared in some form or another over the past few weeks.

But some leakers are more reliable than others, and WinFuture's Roland Quandt is among the best of them. He now shares what appears to be an official specs comparison sheet for the devices (opens in new tab), and gives us an early look at the differences between all three members of the Samsung Galaxy S23 family.

As we've come to expect in recent years, Samsung has basically two tiers of its flagship Galaxy S phones: the S23 and S23 Plus have nearly identical specs, differing only in screen size, battery capacity, and storage options, but the Galaxy S 23 Ultra are both significantly upgraded.

Not only does it have a higher-resolution screen (Quandt states elsewhere (open in new tab) that it will be 3,088 x 1,440 versus the S23 Plus' 2,340 x 1,080) and a built-in S-Pen, but the camera improvements are substantial. As has long been predicted, Samsung will debut a 200MP camera here. Leaker Ice Universe describes it as "stronger than all of the 200MP I've seen before."

However, this camera upgrade masks one interesting downgrade-at least on paper. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra had a 40MP front-facing selfie camera, but here it is listed with a significant drop down to 12MP - the same as other models in the range. We would doubt it, but again, it's something we've heard as a possibility before.

Of course, there is more to the camera's performance than megapixels, and it may be an oversimplification to make it look comparable to the cheaper S23 devices. We will have to see for ourselves when we receive samples for review.

Looking at the overall specs, there does not appear to be any major differences between the generations, except for a 200mAh increase in battery capacity in the two regular models. What is not listed here, however, is the processor that could trump the S23.

That it will feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is no surprise to smartphone followers, but we had previously heard rumors of a Samsung-specific model with a bit more power. And Quanto seems to have confirmed it with this interesting slide:

Given that the regular version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 already offers multi-core performance comparable to the iPhone 14 Pro, how the "For Galaxy" edition It is exciting to speculate how the "For Galaxy" edition will be even better.

It won't take long to find out; Galaxy Unpacked, where all Galaxy S23 models will be officially announced, is scheduled for Wednesday, February 1. Here's everything to expect from the event, but for full confirmation, check with Tom's Guide on the day itself when we'll have all the details and analysis you can hope for.
