The streaming list of new films is extensive this week. Not just for those who want to catch up with the Oscar-nominated films. [Best Picture nominee "Tár" is coming to Peacock. Best Actress nominee Cate Blanchett plays an icon of a practically abusive classical art form that has been condemned by her peers. Its release on Peacock is a big win for those who have been waiting for it to be available on streaming services. (My parents couldn't wait and paid $20 for it).
Netflix has a new Netflix original with a big star in You People, in which Jonah Hill plays a guy who just wants to get married. The only problem is that his parents and her parents don't get along. Now, Netflix's "Narvik" is the streaming service's new No. 1 movie, and we have the scoop on what you should watch or skip.
Prime Video also has a big husband and wife original movie this week, with Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel playing a happy couple whose wedding goes up in flames. M3GAN is the result of matching the DNA of [Child's Play] with the DNA of [Black Mirror's] "Rachel, Jack, and Ashley too." It is the result of a match.
Here are the top seven new movies to watch online this week:
Megan or Emsliegan, whatever you want to call her, the heir to the AI-powered evil doll throne has already proven herself a powerful icon. With a decent message about not leaving parenting to the screen, this is a fairly campy horror film that is not as bloody or violent as one might expect.
M3GAN (somehow, short for Model 3 Generative Android) is a doll, Gemma (Allison Williams of "Get Out" and "Girls"), who needs help raising Cady (Violet McGraw) after a tragic accident. It is a Frankenstein's Monster production. The only problem, however, is that M3GAN (voiced by Jenna Davis and played by Amy Donald) goes to extreme lengths to protect Cady.
And with a sequel (M3GAN 2.0) scheduled for January 17, 2025, we know that "M3GAN" is already a hit.

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris's feature directorial debut, "You People," is about the culture clash at the heart of a budding relationship theme. Ezra (Jonah Hill) and Amira (Lauren London) have skipped what amounts to a normal courtship, only to get really close to her parents because Ezra is ready to propose. And her black family will meet his Jewish family.
For starters, Amira's father (Eddie Murphy) is not ready to call Ezra his son. Meanwhile, Ezra's parents (Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny) don't know how to talk to Amira without making everyone uncomfortable.

A traditional big-budget rom-com (featuring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel) and "The White Lotus" (sung by Jennifer Coolidge in the trailer above) in one Combined, "Shotgun Wedding" looks to be chaos at its finest. Coolidge plays Josh's mother Carol, who, after annoying all the invited guests, continues to be a nuisance when a masked gunman takes the wedding hostage.
Filled with a strong supporting cast, including Lenny Kravitz, Darcy Carden, and Cheech Marin, "Shotgun Wedding" looks to be a romantic comedy for those who also want explosions in their entertainment.
Watch it on Peacock starting Friday (January 13) (opens in a new tab)
Lydia Tarr (Cate Blanchett) is a rock star in the classical music world. The first female principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic and an iconic figure with a new book titled Tár on Tár, Lydia is the queen of the industry. But as "Tár" tells us early on, a lot happens when the great man is not looking. Whispers of misdeeds with former students and posts on social networking sites make it seem as if Lydia is even more hostile to her students in class than she is now, threatening to ruin what Lydia has spent decades building up.
An intense film that never asks the audience to see its central character as a true villain, "Tár" is a frontrunner for many Academy Awards, and for good reason. Blanchett's calm yet commanding performance, for example, makes her a front-runner for Best Actress.
Available on Peacock (opens in a new tab) starting Friday (January 27)
Sure, the next full moon is only a few weeks away, but that hasn't stopped the "Teen Wolf" series from coming back repeatedly. And the good news is that many of the original cast members of the recent series are returning. That includes Crystal Reed as Allison Ergen. Yes, longtime fans may have tilted their heads and said "huh," but there's a reason for that. This surprise will alleviate some of the frustration that Stiles Stilinski (Dylan O'Brien) will not be returning.
The film, which takes place several years after the final installment of the series, features a large number of monsters in Beacon Hills. Banshees, worm coyotes, hellhounds, foxes, and more. Naturally, a new super-evil force is threatening the peace, and it is up to Scott McCall (a returning Tyler Posey) to unite with his old friends to stop it.

"Better Call Saul" ends, and we all didn't know we needed Bob Odenkirk. Life Upside Down is a film about three couples whose lives were not going well before March 2020.
Odenkirk plays Jonathan, an artist whose gallery is in dire straits and sales are imminent. And once isolated, Jonathan's problems with his wife - and those experienced by two other couples they know - rise up when they have no way to avoid each other.

While "M3GAN" is a horror film you don't have to be a horror fan to enjoy, "The Lair" is definitely for scary movie fans. In "The Lair," Royal Air Force pilot Lt. Kate Sinclair (Charlotte Kirk) is shot down over Afghanistan and finds herself in a dark, secret bunker inhabited by monsters. At least they look like monsters, as one military expert tells her they are actually human
. Directed by Neil Marshall (Descent), The Lair looks to be full of thrills and a bit of campy energy.
