The iPhone15Pro display is facing production problems, which could mean a shortage of inventory

The iPhone 15 Pro and especially the iPhone 15 Pro Max may experience launch delays and stock shortages due to display defects, two sources told The Information.

The new iPhones are manufactured by Apple's production partner Foxconn. However, displays for the iPhone 15 made by Samsung have passed these tests.

Modifications to make the LG display work have already been tested, the report continues. However, one consequence of this setback may mean limited availability of the phone at launch, especially for the Pro Max model. Apple may instead decide to delay the launch to try to build more units, but it sounds like it will try to debut the new phones on time, regardless of inventory levels

Apparently, LG's display has a narrower display bezel to be unsuccessful due to the new process Apple is using; we've heard rumors about what Apple is doing before. Narrowing the bezel not only looks more attractive, it also means that the active area of the display can be larger on the same size phone body, or the body can be smaller while keeping the display size the same.

One of The Information's sources compared this situation to what happened with the Apple Watch 7 in 2021. This model also used new display technology to increase the size of the screen while keeping the same overall casing as before, and assembly issues forced a later-than-planned release.

The Information's report is consistent with another recent testimony by an analyst claiming that the iPhone 15 launch may be delayed. That initial claim did not explain why, but presumably it was based on the same details we are now hearing about Apple's display troubles.

A stock shortage or some sort of delay for the iPhone 15 series would be unfortunate given the rumors we have heard so far. For one thing, Apple apparently accelerated its normal manufacturing schedule and ordered extra parts early to avoid shortages. And while Apple intends to sell millions of iPhones no matter when they are released, if the iPhone 15 is released in another quarter of the fiscal year or sales are hampered by supply shortages, as The Information article further delves into, Apple's stock price performance could be affected.

But for iPhone 15 buyers, delays and supply shortages would be annoying because of how many major upgrades are said to be coming this year, especially for the Pro model. iPhone 15 Pro Max is even more than the previous iPhone The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro should get a new 3nm chipset that will allow for greater and more efficient performance. All models are said to feature the dynamic island notch introduced on last year's iPhone 14 Pro and will be the first to feature a USB-C charging port.
