"Maestro" is Bradley Cooper's long-awaited sequel to "A Star is Born. In fact, he began work on this Leonard Bernstein biopic as soon as he completed his directorial debut.
This time, however, he did not go through a traditional Hollywood studio. Instead, this Oscar contender will be produced by streaming service giant Netflix. Theatrical releases are still limited, but for many, this may be the first time they see the film from the comfort of their couch at home.

"Maestro" chronicles the life of acclaimed conductor Leonard Bernstein (Bradley Cooper), who came to prominence as one of the first legendary American conductors of classical music in 1940s New York.
He went on to become a prominent conductor and composer in numerous genres, winning numerous Emmy and Grammy awards and a Tony Award in 1953 for his musical "Wonderful Town." He received only one Academy Award nomination, for On the Waterfront in 1954, and did not receive the coveted "EGOT," but his shortcomings in no way diminished his legacy.
The focus of Maestro, however, is not Bernstein's success. Instead, the film focuses on Bernstein's relationship with his wife, Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan), and the family that grew out of their love.
The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, earning a Golden Lion nomination at the Venice International Film Festival and an 80% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Picture in Drama, and Cooper and Mulligan were nominated for Best Acting.
